Matt Hogan is an Ithaca, NY based bassist, keyboardist, and sometimes vocalist who has performed in the US and Japan.
Matt studied the art of jazz bass at university, traded his skills for free meals at numerous New England venues, and perfected the art of rushing to the train station for a set-break beer at hotels throughout Tokyo.
Matt has brought left-hand synth-bass power to the masses with Moss, created tender moments with his Rhodes work with Brit-pop friends The Watanabes, and stretched out on countless jams on keys and electric bass with Trade.
Matt is an often backup, sometimes lead vocalist looking for other voices to create the perfect blend.
Matt is working on an EP of jazzy, bluesy, and sometimes sightly country-ish tunes, aiming for release sometime soon. When he's not at work, falling off ladders while resurrecting his old bungalow, or spending time with his family, he's searching for musical ideas and looking for creative partners.
Matt is constantly tinkering with a pile of gear that most other folks have enough common sense to avoid entirely. His current roster of items includes a Tascam 244 Portastudio, 1905 Steinway Vertegrand, and a 1979 Volvo 245 awaiting an engine transplant.
Matt has long been fascinated by the Fender Rhodes piano, and currently plays on a 1967 Sparkletop piano he rebuilt, identical to the model used by Billy Preston on the Beatles' rooftop concert. He's available for all manner of work on all sizes and styles of Rhodes, including tuning, voicing, and restoration.
